Anonymous asked: GAMSAT is a joke. Honestly, places in medicine, especially CSP places, should be limited to OP 1 recipients. If you can't excel in school, you shouldn't be doing medicine.

Wow. I don’t even know where to begin here.

The majority of medical students, not just in Australia but worldwide, get their medical degree through a graduate entry program. A lot of factors determine a persons success and I firmly believe that to be a good doctor you need more than just good grades. You need life experience, life experience that you get from doing a degree that you don’t have coming straight out of high school. If the only criteria for choosing our doctors was the score someone got at the age of 17 there would be half the number of physicians there are today and healthcare (as well as the medical profession) would be an absolute joke.

If you are one of those people who scored highly enough to get into an undergrad medical degree, then great! Good for you! But I’m here to tell you that if you don’t get down off your high horse you will never be a great doctor.

If you sat the GAMSAT you will find this priceless.

I had a really fun night tonight. I went on a second date with cute girl and we went to see an advanced screening of this indie film called Safety Not Guaranteed at her university campus. It was a really cool movie (you should all go out and see it when it  comes out) and afterwards a couple of the actors sat in for a Q&A. Really knowing nothing about film-making or directing it was great to listen to these professionals and students discuss the movie and the industry that they are so passionate about. I learnt a lot of new things and got to meet a lot of interesting new people which all in all made for an incredibly enjoyable night. I like this feeling.

Today:

  • The Spider’s House by Paul Bowles
  • The Red and The Black by Stendhal

There was a young adult book release party at work today.

Over one hundred people came and I didn’t notice one young adult.

I went to pub trivia with my friends from halfway across the globe.

I love my friends.
Every week we meet up and play trivia at the local pub.
They did this last week. That’s me in the middle, the little cardboard cut-out.
It’s probably the thing I miss most about being home.

My roommate came into my room bawling because it turns out her boyfriend (of three weeks) broke up with her.

I could have told her to suck it up and that I have my own shit to deal with.

But I didn’t.

I’m really good at bullshitting relationship advice.

Ha.

There’s that bummer that yesterday was missing.

I knew it was too good to be true.

I had a fantastic day!

Had my coffee date with cute girl.

Talked for five hours straight and was subsequently late to work.

My manager wasn’t even mad and instead started giggling when I walked into the store half an hour late.

My workplace is the coolest place to work and this girl might just be the coolest person ever.

I wonder what blind people see when they dream.
